How Can The FIC Help You?
{jform=1}

3D Visualization
rnatranscrptn The FIC can rapidly provide detailed 3D animations and illustrations at no cost to faculty when used in classroom instruction. FIC visualization services are also available at a reasonable rate for purposes beyond instruction such as grants or promotion of research. Detailed visualizations can help students understand complex subjects and can also demonstrate sophisticated or potentially dangerous experiments.

Distance Learning

Distance Learning should be simple, flexible, and accessible.

The FIC supports three state-of-the-art distance learning classrooms, allowing remote students to view your lectures live via a streaming webcast. Captured lectures are posted for on-demand viewing at any time. You can pre-record a lecture if you need to miss a class, to go over remedial material, or to present material that cannot be covered in class due to time constraints.

The FIC has staff to assist you with your distance learning course.  You do not need to know all the details of the technology, or change the way you teach.  All classes are monitored as they happen so you will receive immediate technology assistance, should the need arise.

Faculty Development

We understand that faculty development doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. Our intent with faculty development is to assist professors in the areas of teaching and scholarship. For example, we provide assistance in class preparation, evaluation of students, use of new technologies, and so on. We also support educational grant efforts, assesment/evaluation, and educational research activities.  In the FIC, we are able to provide one-on-one consulting, small group (i.e., new faculty) assistance, or with the engineering faculty as a whole.

Interactive Media
interactivemedia_sm Interactive media integrates audio, video, still images, animation, text, and data to create content that is highly visual and easily distributed. With today's instructional emphasis on the learner and active learning, interactive media are readily appropriate for your classes. In the FIC, we not only have highly skilled Web developers, but we have an animator and a back-end data base expert. Our team can create a multitude of rich resources for your classes and research endeavors.

From laptops to iPhones, today’s students – known as "Digital Natives" - are always plugged in and accustomed to receiving information from multiple outlets. But students aren’t just passive participants anymore. Thanks to social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, students now have the ability to actively engage online audiences in unique and personal ways.

Video Conferencing

With the FIC’s Tandberg 6000 video conference system real-time face to face communication via the internet is simple. The FIC provides tech support, you are not expected to run the equipment yourself.

The Tandberg is a cutting-edge system that makes videoconferencing remarkably easy. To get connected, all you need is the IP or ISDN number of the party you’re contacting, and the date and time you need it to happen. Be sure to note time zone differences.

In this age of YouTube, you might think the need no longer exists for a full-service video production shop. We know better. In the FIC, we create high-quality, professional instructional and promotional videos. You come to us with an idea and we will guide you from conceptual stages to scriptwriting, taping, editing, and distribution. Given today's digital technologies, we have incredibly powerful tools readily available that allow us to create state-of-the-art productions integrated with animations and enhanced visuals.

Request FIC Services

Since the center is supported by instructional funds, we offer our services free of charge to the University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering Faculty, provided these result in direct classroom instruction. If your project does not fit this prerequisite (such as research projects, promotional videos, etc.) the FIC charges a fee. We'll figure out the cost and give you an estitmate before any work begins. Our rates are more reasonable than what you would pay in the marketplace.
