February 2002 Faculty Spotlight

Dr. Mario GonzalezAfter garnering extensive experience in higher education administration and industry, including positions at Boeing, Applied Research Laboratories, and Texas Instruments, Dr. Mario Gonzalez returned to teaching in the spring of 2001.

With interest in computer architecture and telecommunications networks, Dr. Gonzalez looks to technology to facilitate his teaching duties and enrich his classes. Incorporating the Web-based capabilities of UTwired, the technology-enhanced features of his courses include:

  • Integrating URLs into class notes
  • Posting class notes on the Web 24-48 hours before class
  • Posting homework assignments, homework solutions, and test solutions
  • Broadcasting email messages to all students
  • Notifying students by email when they have missed an assignment
  • Tracking grades through with an online grade book
  • Allowing students to view their grades online

Dr. Gonzalez is currently experimenting with brief (one or two minute) exercises that students work in class. The solutions are posted through UTwired after class. With his enthusiasm for teaching, we're sure he will continue to try new and innovative instructional techniques.
