The semester is well underway, and the FIC is helping to enhance teaching and learning by providing new resources and working on a variety of projects. Here are some of our highlights:
Faculty Video Production
While the FIC's video team provides instructional videos for your classes, they are also very capable of producing promotional pieces for programs within the College. The video team's high level of technical expertise and creative energy fuels innovative productions that highlight what our College has to offer. Take a look:

New Distance Learning Classrooms
Two new distance learning classrooms can be found in ETC 2.136 and 2.132. These rooms have been upgraded with new chairs, carpet, wall coverings, whiteboards, and the latest version of the College's electronic podium system. The rooms will be completed with the installation of videoconferencing equipment (to be completed by early November).
Secondary Math Problem
The General Electric Foundation is funding the Aim for Engineering project, which offers enhanced professional development workshops for secondary math teachers. The FIC is coordinating this three-year effort and is working alongside ME professor Rich Crawford to deliver workshops that provide teachers with the background and resources to carry out engineering-oriented, hands-on activities in math classrooms. Activities are designed to support deep understanding of specific math concepts through systematic exploration of student-built physical gadgets, such as catapults and water rocket launchers.
3D Animation
You may be aware that the FIC produces 2D and 3D animations and simulations for your classes. In addition to classroom materials, we are currently developing an animation to be used in a kiosk for the Aerospace Department.
Faculty Development
Are your old classroom strategies losing their efficacy? Or perhaps you're struggling to find a balance between application and theory? Come into the FIC to talk about your teaching and explore ways to enhance what you are doing. Check out some of the handouts on instructional techniques located on our web site and please come by or call us if you'd like to discuss your classes.
